Multiscale modeling of particle deposition

The deposition and surface wettability of molten sand mixture on thermal barrier coatings is investigated to aid the development of funtionalized surfaces with tailored wetting properties such that the TBC degradation is mitigated in gas turbine engines. The depostion studies are carried out using a Euler-Lagrange framework while the wettability investigations are carried out using the volume-of-fluid and many-body dissipative particle dynamics (mDPD) methods.

Multiphase instabilities

Interactions of shockwaves and blastwaves with dense particle beds in planar and cylindrical geometries are investigated using Euler-Lagrange framework. Using these simulations 1. The efficacy of drag models is evaluated 2. Role of fluid instabilities on particle dispersion is explored.
